Dear Colleagues,
Several of you have received a phishing email from a GMail account "headofschool1963@gmail.com", pretending to be Steve Druggan. These emails are not legit. Phishing emails are an attempt to solicit info or money (from you) and gain info or money (for the email sender). Please know that all SCH Business and Communications are conducted with SCH.org email addresses.
You can verify that an email is from the originating sender by clicking the "upside down triangle" in an email message and ensuring the "mailed" and "signed" fields match the sender's address and that the connection uses encryption (see 2 screen pictures below).
Notice the mailed-by: and signed-by fields below:
If you do receive a phishing email, please report the message as Phishing (not SPAM, these are different categories of unwanted email). This makes Google smarter.
Google does a very good job of catching most of the emails before they hit our inbox, but not always. When in doubt, apply common sense (would someone be emailing me out of the blue asking me for my passcode, to send personal logon info, to click on a link, install a piece of software, etc...) Not sure if a message is a phishing attack, ask a member of your Tech Team. When in doubt, pick up the phone, call and ask, after deleting the suspected phishing email!
